About Our Program
We offer education and experience that’s practical for anyone looking to tackle a filmmaking skill or jumpstart their independent filmmaking dream. From the blank page to M&D (marketing and distribution), CFE walks the student through the process of independent film-making.
Our goal is to assist students in discovering a craft they are passionate about and dare to lead on set.
With over two decades of writing, directing, producing, lighting, camera, and editing, and five years teaching collegiate film classes, course director Marc A Hutchins brings a unique blend of experience and education, sharing on-set and production wisdom, stories of success, and tales of caution on set.
Teamwork and Dreamwork
Independent filmmaking is a community, if nothing else, and Cherokee Film Experience wants to see you succeed — both artistically, and financially.
An Education Right for You
There are many options to learn filmmaking online, however, we believe providing a hands-on, face-to-face experience makes learning way more fun.
Our courses are offered in-person with realtime feedback from experienced filmmakers. As well, our technical courses, requiring the application of industry equipment, offers the most genuine opportunity to get “behind the camera” and appreciate the time and energy crew members invest on set.
Whether or not you want to schlep gear, assist on camera, or design a lighting setup, appreciating others for doing it on your behalf makes you a better collaborator overall.
An Education Worth the Investment
Nothing says “free” like a free film education — that’s because we think you should spend your money on film production. Therefore, we are currently offering courses free of charge, and without shortcutting your educational experience.
As well, by offering you courses tailored to your production ambitions, giving you the chance to hone a filmmaking skill, you can save time and money on crafts that aren’t to your liking. Or you can take in each opportunity, doubling down on learning, thereby increasing your marketability. .
An Education that Grows with You
Success in independent filmmaking comes through building career-long relationships with likeminded artists. CFE fosters community by encouraging and supporting local production opportunities.
We also offer resources to assist you in casting, crewing, scouting locations, and more. When you succeed, we believe it’s a win for the community. As the saying goes, “a rising tide floats all boats.”
When possible, CFE will work directly with local filmmakers to produce content.
